Mark 14:30 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.”
31 “No!” Peter declared emphatically. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the others vowed the same.
What Peter didn't realize was that good intentions are not enough.
What Peter didn't realize was that he was not strong enough to resist temptation on his own.
What Peter didn't realize was that he could do something he thought he would never do.
We need to have more than good intentions. We need to be humble enough to recognize that we are not immune to the temptation of sin, nor are we strong enough to combat it on our own. We need to realize our utter dependence on the Holy Spirit and live in the light of that knowledge.
