Thursday, August 3rd: Psalms 63-65; Romans 6 ~ Tammy

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Psalms 63-65; Romans 6

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is one of the most popular memory verses, and part of the Roman Road gospel message.

The wages of sin is death.  We are all sinners - every last one of us (aside from Jesus, of course!).  And we all deserve death, the wages for our sin.  When it comes to salvation, it doesn't matter if our "worst" sin was murder or jealousy, our sin costs us eternity.

But thanks be to God, who gives us, at great cost to Himself, the gift of eternal life through the birth, perfect life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It's a gift so underserving.  But it's not free.  The cost was the life of the Son of God Himself.  And when we accept this amazing grace, we too need to count the cost.  There is a cost to following Jesus while living in a world determined to live in rebellion against Him. Being a Christian isn't just about a get our of hell free card.  It's about following Jesus as Lord of every single part of our lives, taking up our cross daily, pursuing holiness and sanctification as He continues His work in us.

The gift is priceless, and the cost is worth it!

It's extremely foolish to not except this gift.
