Friday, May 16th

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is 2 Samuel 1-2; Psalm 98; Acts 9
Today's scripture focus is Genesis 1:20-23

Genesis 1:20-23

English Standard Version (ESV)
20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

Accompanying John MacArthur sermon: Creation Day 5

MacArthur points out a neat parallel in creation....
On day one God created light, on day four He created the stellar bodies to be the light givers. On day two He created the seas and the heavens, and on day five He populated the seas and the heavens. On day three He created the earth and its vegetation, correspondingly on day six He created the animals and man to populate the earth and to consume its vegetation. So the parallels run consistently through.

God created fish and all other sea animals, including the great sea creatures of v21, sometimes translated sea monsters.  That is included in the Bible because of the mythological sea creature gods, and here God is refuting that.  There are simply another natural creation of God`s, nothing more, nothing less.

He also created all the birds of the air.

Not only did He create them, He gave them reproductive abilities to ensure their permanence and propagation.

I found a fascinating video about this as well - it`s a bit long, but even if you only watch part of it, you will be amazed at our Creator.

Also, I love this video made with clips from Planet Earth and set to the song Creation Calls.

Glory to God!
