September 11th

Today's reading from the One Year Bible Chronological Reading Plan is Haggai 2:1-9, Zechariah 1:1-6, Haggai 2:10-19, Ezra 5:2, Haggai 2:20-23, Zechariah 1:7-5:11
With less flipping: Haggai 2; Zechariah 1-5, Ezra 5:2

The Message of Zechariah by Mike Leake is a good read, if you have the time.

My favourite portion of this scripture...

Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, "Take off his filthy clothes." Then he said to Joshua, "See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put rich garments on you." Zechariah 3:3-4

Could there be a passage more symbolic of what Jesus does for us? What incredible prophecy! What a beautiful picture. What hope!

None of us are perfect, not one. Our goodness is like filthy rags to Him. Judged on our merit, we would be found wanting. And that's a major understatement.

But the blood of Jesus changes all that. The blood of Jesus cleanses our sin. By His wounds we are healed. And we become white as snow. And we are forever changed.

Tomorrow's passage: Zechariah 6, Ezra 5:3-6:14, Zechariah 7-8
