Thursday, February 16th: Leviticus 19-20; Matthew 27:51-66 ~ Deena

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Leviticus 19-20; Matthew 27:51-66

The Pharisees and religious leaders were fearful of Jesus rising from the dead so they did all they could humanly possible do, to stop that from happening. Placing Him in a tomb, securing it with a big stone, and having guards stand by it. If Jesus would rise from the dead then everything they had accused Him of would be false. They were scared!
We can't force people to believe in Jesus, but we can show them by how we live our lives that He is Lord!

Tomorrow's Bible In a Year Passage:  Leviticus 21-22; Matthew 28

Little did the Pharesies know that if Jesus could rise from the dead, then having guards at the door of his tomb wouldn't help a lot, or do a lot. Pilate and the Pharesies weren't confident in their own reasoning that Jesus was just a regular man, and obviously still felt uneasy after they had declared him dead, and therefore felt the need for guards. We see the silliness of this now, and need to be thankful that we can live for and trust in Him

and said, "Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive, 'After three days I will rise.' Therefore order the tomb to be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples go and steal him away and tell the people, 'He has risen from the dead,' and the last fraud will be worse than the first." - Matthew 27:63-64

I find it interesting that they did not believe or have the fear that Jesus was God's son, but yet they feared that He could rise from the dead 3 days later.

28: 7 Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. 8 Keep my statutes and do them; I am the Lord who sanctifies you.

Do we reflect the God we claim to follow?
