Thursday July 14: Psalms 115-118 ~ Cameron

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Psalms 115-118

"Our God is in the heavens; He does whatever He pleases" - Psalm 115:2

Sovereignty is not a concept people focus on in this day and age. There was a time when a sovereign ruler had the right to do what they willed. How much more so the Creator of the universe? We don't like the idea of being subjects, without rights to existence.

We are not owed any explanation. We are not owed our next breath. Like a pile of blocks built by a child. If the child wishes to knock the pile over the blocks are not consulted. How much more so the Alpha and Omega, the Ancient of Days. There is no demand He must answer; no summons He must heed.

We serve a Sovereign God! And that should bring us to further awe and reverence for the Almighty, and His Grace and Mercy that is bestowed upon us.

Tomorrow's Bible In a Year Passage: Psalms 119

A good reminder that we serve an awesome God, one who can do whatever He wants. We are only here and can show our dedication to Him for a short time, I want to serve Him now when I have a chance.

The concept of God's sovereignty is definitely one people don't like, especially in this day and age of no absolute truth and that our decisions should be based on whatever makes us happy. He is sovereign over all! He can do whatever He pleases with no input from us. The amazing thing is that He does spare a thought for each of us. All of attributes combine in such an amazing way - His sovereignty and love, justice and mercy, holiness and grace, and so on.

Psalm 116 12 What can I offer the Lord
for all he has done for me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and praise the Lord’s name for saving me.
14 I will keep my promises to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.

How are we showing our gratitude towards God for what He has done for us?
