And He said, “See to it that you are not misled; for many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not go after them.
In most Bibles, this verse is included under the story heading "The Widow's Gift" and is right before the heading "Things to come."
We know these headings were not their originally, but put there for guidance. I think I would move this under the "things to come" heading.
For Jesus is talking about what is going to happen. We just read the passage where he spoke about the temple being destroyed, and the disciples want to know when all this is going to happen. They want to be prepared.
And yet Jesus doesn't give us a particular time or day. He just warns us further. "See to it that you are not mislead." Study up, know your Bible, know ME, because there are going to be people pretending to be Me. There are going to be people who claim the time is near when really they have no clue. "Do not go after them."
The following passages include more of this prophecy of things to come, I'll leave those for Tammi. But today I leave you with this - know Jesus, so that when others come claiming to be Him (because they will, He says they will), you can know the truth.

My ESV has it under the correct heading :)
So true. The more deeply we know Jesus, the more confident we can be that we will not be deceived or misled. It reminds me of how they teach you to tell the difference between real money and counterfeit money - you need to know the real thing, and if you do, you'll spot the counterfeit every time.
Amen!!! Good post Tiffany!
