Monday, Septebmer 16 - Tiffany

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Isaiah 33-34; Proverbs 14; 1 Thessalonians 3
Today's scripture focus is Luke 13:31-33

31 At that very hour some Pharisees came and said to him, “Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you.” 32 And he said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I finish my course. 33 Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’

I have to be honest, these verses had me completely lost on what to say.  So I turned to MacArthur, who has an entire sermon on just these 3 verses, to see what he learned and had to share.  (You can read the complete sermon here.)

MacArthur's big question in this sermon is "Who really killed Jesus?"  After going through a whole list of people (The Pharisees, the Jews, 2 different Herods, etc.), he gives an answer that I've learned in other places as well -

We all did.

Jesus came for ALL of us.  His entire life, multiple different people and groups wanted him dead for multiple different reasons.  And yet, he never gave up his mission - to spread God's love, to heal the broken, to save the world.

And so, though we weren't even born, we all can take the blame for Jesus's death.

How lucky we are, how blessed, that he forgives us not only for His death, but for all our sins.  How blessed that we can be washed clean, forgiven, and live a life worthy of Him.
Tomorrow's scripture focus: Luke 13:34-45
Tomorrow's Bible In a Year Passage passage: Isaiah 35-36; Proverbs 15; 1 Thessalonians 4
