Monday, June 4th

Today's passage from the Chronological Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Proverbs 4-6
Today's scripture focus is Ecclesiastes 3:9-15

What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God.14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.
15 Whatever is has already been,
    and what will be has been before;
    and God will call the past to account.

We need to remember that we work because God has given us work to do (v10), and the fruit of that labour is a gift from Him (v13), and is, in fact, a way to serve Him.

We aren't suppose to find satisfaction in what we accumulate, we aren't supposed to focus on the stuff.  Rather God intends for us to delight in Him and in enjoying the things He's given us as gifts from Him.

I love the verse that says...
He has also set eternity in the hearts of men

God has created us so that we will be satisfied in nothing less than relationship with Him.  He created us in His image, He created us with eternal value, He created us with a yearning for heaven, and He created within us a spiritual thirst that only He can satisfy.

And that's why we find this life so frustrating.  It's supposed to be frustrating so we yearn for more, so we turn to God to find out what that more is, and so that He can then reveal to us that it's relationship with Him that we're missing.
