Tuesday, February 9th: Exodus 28-29 ~ Danae

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Exodus 28-29

In reading chapter 28 today we see the great value & detail put into the priestly garments.

Make the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen-the work of a skilled craftsman (vs 6)

For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope (vs 22)

Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth. Make pomegranates of blue, purple, scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them (vs 31 & 33)

Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD (vs 36)

Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer (vs 39)

The priest was required to be the people’s representative before God. He was going into the presence of God and needed to be prepared, showing respect & honor.

Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die (vs 35)

There is no longer a need for the priest as we can now approach God through Jesus.

Do we take the time and care to consider who we’re approaching when we meet God (whether at church, in our prayer time, while singing praises). It's not just about what we’re wearing, but where are our hearts at.

Our God is worthy of our utmost reverence & honor.

We are meeting the King of Kings & Lord of Lords. What an awesome privilege!

Good point about remembering who we're approaching when we pray or sing praises. God is holy, do we show Him the respect He deserves? This is a tough portion of scripture to read and follow along with, a lot of the ways listed are no longer applicable, but the point is that God is special and approaching Him in prayer or by praising Him in song or deed is something we need to show the utmost respect for.

Due to the approachability of Jesus in the NT, it's become easy to forget about approaching God with awe and reverence. A good reminder.

Sometimes it's easy to gloss over the highly specific details but each portion represents something of importance. To understand the requirements to be in God's presence before Jesus is sometimes hard to understand. You're so right about it's not just about what we wear but where are hearts are too.
