Wednesday, January 28th: Isaiah 17-19, Mark 5:1-20 ~ Tammy

Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is Isaiah 17-19, Mark 5:1-20

7 In that day man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel. 8 He will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and he will not look on what his own fingers have made, either the Asherim or the altars of incense.

There will come a day when every knee will bow, every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.  There will come a day when there will be no doubt who is God and who is not.  That day will be a great day of rejoicing for believers and a fearful day of judgment for unbelievers.  But it is coming nonetheless.

In our Mark passage this verse jumped out at me....
“Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
Pretty blunt, pretty to the point, pretty simple - but not always easy.  May I be willing to tell my friends how much the Lord has done for me, and how merciful He has been towards me!

The man, in storey from Mark, was well known as being possessed. What a great example he was for the rest of his life, of the power of God to change and forgive. Everywhere he went from then on, people would know and talk about this man who was changed.

The same two verses in the Isaiah passage stuck out to me too. No matter how impressive their alters are, they will not compare to God and their attention will be drawn towards Him!

Good point on the demon possessed man Nathan. I found it interesting that the people pleaded with Jesus to leave. I guess they were upset about the pigs drowning (loss of income or food for the people), but after witnessing and hearing about this spectacular miracle, I would have thought that they would have wanted to see more.

I think the thing that stuck out for me as I read the Isaiah passage is that everything that we know as reality can and will change. Everything we try to control, every THING we worship, everything we rely on will pass away and God is in control of that and in His time it will happen-are we ready for that?

I thought about the people wanting Jesus to leave after seeing Him do such an amazing thing and I think it was because they just didn't understand it. They had probably spent their whole lives avoiding this man, being scared of this man, and trying to control this man. Now seeing him as a sane person probably confused them and made them wonder how Jesus could have healed him when they could not even control him in shackles and chains. People don't know how to handle confusing stuff and probably thought if Jesus just left then their lives could just go back to normal.
