tuesday april 2 2013 - Sandy

Today's scripture focus is: Jude 1:17-19
Today's passage from the Bible In a Year Reading Plan is: Deut 29-30, Psalm 66, Luke 22

But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.  They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.

Jude 1:17-19

I think every generation since Jesus has been *sure* we are in end times.  Every generation has had it's share of disgusting things done, embraced, and encouraged.  Trials and tribulations.

The fact is, we don't know when the end is.  We don't know when Jesus is coming back.  We do, however, know what we need to be doing.  We need to be vigilant, aware, strong in our faith.  Following the Word and faithful to God's commands.
Not that it's easy, and this verse reminds us of that.  Scoffers.  Ungodly. Oh how right.  Scoffers are abundant.  Those following their own ungodly passions.  Just look at our society!  Ungodly passions are almost more common than not now.

We are warned that these people will cause divisions, and do they ever.  Just bring up abortion, gay marriage, divorce, or anything else that's a hot button these days and see what happens, even amongst a group of Christians.  It can get ugly pretty quickly.

We must stop it!  We must stand united against sin, against the world's acceptance and encouragement of sin.  We must be on ever constant guard against those who would divide us and weaken our resolve.
Stand strong!

Sandy - I just love this verse and what you have to say here.
Can I share it on my personal blog as well?

Great post Sandy.

I liked how MacArthur compared them to terrorists, in this case, spiritual terrorists. We know they're here - God's Word tells us to expect it (which is comforting because it assures us that God is still on the throne, this isn't happening unbeknownst to Him). It's a warning to be vigilant about detecting these terrorists and protecting the church.

And yet, we can't only be defensive, we also have to be offensive - because it's also our mission to win lost souls to Christ.

Talk about a battle indeed!
