February 10th Readings

Today's readings from the One Year Chronological Bible Reading Plan are Exodus 29-31. Click here to read online.

Chapters 29 and 30 detail how the priests and the objects in the temple are to be consecrated. This passage emphasizes the absolute holiness of God.

Jesus' death and resurrection has opened the way for us to have a personal relationship with Him and the knowledge that the Almighty God would be approachable that way is amazing to me. I think that we do have to be careful that this personal relationship does not become flippant. It is easy to take God for granted, to rush into church not even ready for worship - we often treat God casually. We need to remember God's holiness. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe, and though we can approach Him personally, we do need to remember to come to Him with reverence and repentance. We need to be prepared to meet with God. This does not mean that we cannot offer up desperate pleas for help in a time of crises. But it is a reminder to keep the holiness of God in mind as well.

Chapter 31 reminds us again that it is God who gives us our gifts and talents, and that we need to use those talents to bring Him glory.

This chapter also reminds us of the importance of the Sabbath as a time for rest and reflection. Click here to read an excellent article about the Sabbath and keeping it holy.

Tomorrow's readings are taken from Exodus 32-34. Click here to read online.

Approaching holiness with reverence ~ indeed something I think our generation has trouble caring about. (and as a result, those following us will, too)

I think we've made God a little too "Regular Joe" in our time, and we've become too casual in our worship, ESPECIALLY how our lives reflect worship beyond Sunday morning services!

There are numerous instances in the OT where people sensed they were in the presence of God and instantly they saw how wretched and sinful they were; how unworthy to have audience with Him. I know I sure don't go to church with that attitude! And yet, we are CONSTANTLY in the presence of God, but you're exactly right: we're flippant about it. How often do we really ACT like sinners who deserve to die but because of a merciful God, will receive eternal life instead?!

Good point. Definitely something to think about.
