However, the phrase "too little too late" comes to mind. If only he would have recognized this sooner!

It's also sad to see how desperately Esau wants to be loved by his parents. Rebekah's love for Jacob appears to have been unconditional, but she didn't seem to have much love for Esau. Isaac's love for Esau seems to have been conditional, based on his performance. Esau appears to have despaired over ever gaining his mother's love, but was still trying to win his father's love, and married a non-Canaanite women in order to try to do so. Unfortunately, he still didn't get it right - he married a descendant of Ishmael, a child of self-effort.

Jacob couldn't find God by striving on his own (certainly not by such deceptive means!), but rather, was found by God in his sleep. :)

I appreciated the end of Deffinbaugh's sermon....
a profession of faith does not mean our immediate entrance into blissful experiences and rose-petal-strewn pathways. For twenty years after this conversion experience Jacob was to live away from his mother and father, away from the land of promise. For twenty years Jacob was to be administered a large dose of his own medicine, dealt out by an uncle who was even more deceitful than he. Entering into a relationship with God does not guarantee only good times and happy experiences; but it does assure us of the forgiveness of sins, the hope of eternal life, and the presence of God in our everyday lives.Tammyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12045517118866436340noreply@blogger.com
